The standard also mentions that under no circumstances shall the coat be “fluffed out” like a Poodle or an Old English Sheepdog. Dogs with such coat shall, according to the standard, be penalized strictly because they evoke a wrong impression of the type and breed of the dog. Adult coat totally excludes other than wheaten colour. Among other deficiencies described in the standard also falls dull, thick, woolly or cottony textured hair, white or brown hair.
Concerning the breed with lower number of dogs, to which Wheaten certainly falls, the direction of its breeding is decided by referees irrespective to what clients claim. How to avoid such a sad situation? The only way is a full acceptance of the standard written by the country of origin of the breed and country that is the only one that has a genuine right to change it.
On the following pictures you can see so called American coat type. Both dogs are adult, their coat does not have proper colour. Dark mask is not allowed. Gray ears are not typical. Texture of the coat is completely different.
